Panzenberg Stadium, Bremen
May 12, 2024

On May 12, 2024, the stadium at Panzenberg became the scene of a temporary exhibition situation: As part of the match Bremer SV against Blau-Weiss Lohne, the project 35th Matchday presented artistic interventions in the immediate vicinity of the football event.

Before kickoff, during the match, and in its aftermath, a series of works and actions emerged, revealing the stadium as a space for cultural resonance. The artistic positions responded to the architecture, movements, rituals, physicality, and collective tension of the match day without illustrating the sport itself. They set accents, shifted perspectives, and transformed the conditions of seeing, waiting, and experiencing the excitement into artistic material.

The exhibition setting didn't emerge from a neutral white cube, but rather from the heart of the event. Art and football met amidst the ongoing activity – between the stands, the pitch, club pathways, the fan shop, and the throngs of spectators.

Alongside the event, there was a temporary art and fan shop selling stickers, prints, and limited editions. This too was part of the ephemeral nature of the day: an artistic installation that connected with the rhythm of the game and remained visible only for a limited time.
