"Far away and yet so near" – An artistic exploration

An exhibition that uses the 250th anniversary of Caspar David Friedrich's birth as an opportunity to approach his legacy from a contemporary perspective. Conceived by Thomas Judisch , artist and curator, it brings together works by artists from Dresden as well as by artists who have a special connection to the city.

The exhibition features objects, spatial installations, photographs, drawings, and videos that take up Friedrich's artistic ideas and translate them into the present day. The focus is on the interplay between humanity and nature—a central motif of Romanticism—which is re-examined in the context of current issues.

The exhibition reflects on themes such as consumer society, feelings of loneliness, and the search for identity . Engaging with Friedrich's works opens up new perspectives on the tension between past and present, art and reality.
