A football match lasts 90 minutes, the goals are square, and a season has 34 matchdays. Those are facts, right? But what happens when fine art plays with these rules? Will everyone stick to the familiar norms, or will something completely unique and new emerge?
Together with the two Bremen artists Tom Gefken and Oliver Voigt, Bremer SV has been awarded the coveted three-year studio grant from the city of Bremen at the newly opened Center for Art in Woltmershausen. This unique art project – Matchday 35 Reloaded – will explore the theme of football in a variety of ways and will culminate in a group exhibition in the Tabakquartier in the summer of 2024. In addition to the artworks, there will be a rich accompanying program. Besides animated films, panel discussions, lectures, and music, there will also be artistic interventions at the stadium on Panzenberg throughout the season.
Seventeen artists/groups were selected for the project, each attending a Bremer SV home game. The resulting works form the core of the joint exhibition. The community studio in the Tabakquartier serves as the creative hub for the project.
